 The Charger for Electric Vehicles

Capacitive battery charger.  No more noisy transformers.

We have built many of these units and have used them on various vehicles.  This charger can also provide a battery equalizing charge if left on the batteries for a longer time.  It has a timer built into the charger that gives it automatic shut off.  The Capacitive Battery Charger allows a capacitive power supply to act in the same manner as an inductive power supply (transformer). The capacitive nature of this 'transformer' allows super efficiency and is much simpler than its inductive counterpart. This charger is smaller and lighter in weight than a transformer type charger. Will charge most batteries or battery packs (up to 220 amp hours) overnight. Standard 110 volt AC inpute.

How it Works

This battery charger uses an relatively unknown technology for charging batteries. The Capacitive Battery Charger allows a capacitive power supply to act in the same manner as an inductive power supply (transformer). The capacitive nature of this 'transformer' allows super efficiency and is much simpler than its inductive counterpart. This charger is smaller and lighter in weight than a transformer type charger. Will charge most batteries or battery packs 12 to 96 volts DC (up to 220 amp hours) overnight. Standard 110 volt AC input.

It is important to remember that batteries don’t care about voltage when being charged. The important parameter is amperage. Amperage is what actually charges the battery. You only need enough voltage to cause the amperage to flow. The capacitive battery charger automatically varies its output voltage to get the optimum level for the amperage you have chosen. The output voltage can be very high and is actually regulated by the internal resistence of the battery(s). The actual amperage output is determined by the size (microfarads) of the capacitor used in the charger. If you were to add more capacitors you would have more amperage.

Another advantage to this type of battery charger is that it has the ability to desulfate older worn out batteries. As batteries get old they grow sulfate crystals between the plates. These crystals reduce the capacity of the battery, increase the internal resistence and can eventually short out the battery. The capacitive battery charger will automatically increase its output voltage in these older batteries until amperage will flow. This means the capacitive charger can charge a dead battery unlike many other types of chargers. It can even bring some batteries back to life that were otherwise useless.

We have built many of these units and have used them on various electric vehicles and many different sizes of lead acid batteries. This charger can also provide a battery equalizing charge if left on the batteries for a longer time.
